This work presents a reflection on the practices carried out in group instrumental teaching classes in the training of music education teachers, more specifically the guitar, where the aim is to learn to play this instrument as an auxiliary tool to perform musical accompaniments.
Applied at the Escola Superior de Educação of the Instituto Politécnico do Porto, in the 1st and 2nd years of the Music Education Course in the curricular subunits Guitar I and II of the curricular units Vocal and Instrumental Practice II and III respectively, this pedagogical tool integrates groups of students with knowledge in terms of musical training and, mostly, without any knowledge or training in this instrument.
Therefore, based on the acquired experience, this is the description of the approach to studying the guitar in a group, where the objective is not to assess the degree of efficiency in comparison with individual teaching, but rather to reflect on the action to promote and enhance individualized learning in this specific context, concentrating the necessary means for its operation with thoughtful and organized didactic material.
