The aim of this paper is to make our current project known: a monograph about children’s literature on the island of Madeira. After some considerations centered on the problem of the potential reception of youth literature, in its broader concept, including oral traditions, popular tales and educational literature, the topic applied to the island is put into perspective in light of the following framework: “from the 19th century to the 21st century” and “books and authors of a children’s literature in movement”, thus presenting the overview of the growth and assertion of this literary field in Madeira.
