Each work of art, from its original context and time to its present state, (its trans-contextuality), can be understandood as contemporary (Arthur Danto), and capable to stimulate a debate (Umberto Eco). Therefore, we have to sustain that every artistic testimony from Madeira Archipelago, locally produced and/or incorporated, as a result of spiritual, aesthetic and
technique issues of the artists, clients and public, which has arrived to our present time, or has become a part of it, must be studied and experienced.
The present generations have to preserve, promote and value the cultural and artistic Madeirian heritage in order to develop curiosity, interest and responsibility among the younger generation.
The artistic corpus of Madeira Island, (including the disapearead but documented works), considered as a live document, is rich enough to demand the organization of a dictionary of Madeira Art (printed, CD/DVD format or online) organized by a multiple disciplinary and scientific team, able to produce an efficient tool for the identification and characterization of the
regional heritage.
